Give It Twice Trust

A give it twice trust is a charitable remainder unitrust funded at your passing. It provides income to your loved ones for a set number of years and then directs the remaining trust balance to UNC Charlotte. Many donors appreciate this option because it allows them to care for family and support the university with the same asset.

This approach can be a thoughtful way to provide steady income to your children or other loved ones while also creating a future gift that reflects your values and strengthens opportunities for UNC Charlotte students.

Benefits of a give it twice trust

  • Use the full value of your unused retirement account to provide income to your surviving spouse, children, or other loved ones for a set number of years
  • Create an estate tax deduction and savings from the charitable gift
  • Support UNC Charlotte by turning the remainder of the trust into opportunities that help students move forward

How a give it twice trust works

  1. You work with your advisors to create a charitable remainder unitrust.
  2. You complete a beneficiary designation form, naming the charitable trust as the beneficiary, and return the form to the account custodian.
  3. When you pass away, the custodian will transfer your retirement account to the charitable trust.
  4. The trust will pay income to your spouse, children or other individual beneficiaries for their life, term of years or life plus term of years.
  5. At the conclusion of the payments, the remaining assets create a meaningful legacy at UNC Charlotte by supporting students and programs you care about.
